IPNTA Seeks ‘Voucher’ Tenants For New Board Committee
IPNTA is asking for volunteers to join a new board committee to represent
tenants who may be income-eligible for enhanced vouchers. The committee
will attend all board meetings, and keep themselves, the board, and all
other tenants informed of voucher issues.
Theoretically, such vouchers are supposed to pay the landlord the difference
between market rents and the tenants’original rents, but with the
tenants paying 30% of his or her gross income. While there is great skepticism
among tenants that the federal government — especially the current
administration — would be willing to pay such high rents for low
and moderate income people, the issues are complex and need to be addressed.
Most important, the IPNTA board wants to be sure that all tenant segments
are adequately represented.
Committee members must be voucher-eligible (that is, have a low enough
income).
Anyone interested in applying should e-mail IPNTA at
info@ipnta.org. You can also phone 212-227-7444.
