February 2003
A Generous Year!
It was a busy holiday season, made even more so by our Holiday Collection.
This year, 367 tenants contributed $8,864 to the holiday fund. In the
spirit of “United We Stay”, we pooled the funds from all three
buildings and townhouses, and distributed them to 9 maintenance men and
19 porters.
Last year only 15 porters received holiday gifts; the total amount collected
was $6,013. Special thanks to tenants at 310 Greenwich, who made an extra
effort at collections. Much of the increase is a result of their hard
work and generosity. After a long hiatus from any collection, it was good
to see the practice revived last year, and even better to see the increased
participation this year.
As for our Defense Fund, we now have about 500 apartments contributing
and pledging to the save our home campaign. (Unfortunately, many tenants
have been reluctant or unable to join this fight, but that’s a different
issue.) Our major costs so far have been legal fees, tenant coordinator
fees, and postage and printing costs.
When I started in July 2000 as treasurer, my main responsibility was
tracking annual dues; to say the least, the job has grown along with our
bank account. Our financial records today are impeccable: every penny
we receive and spend is fully accounted for.
At the next tenants meeting, I will provide a complete report. If a
Tenant Association member has any questions about the finances, please
feel free to write to me, c/o the IPNTA mailbox (310 Greenwich Street
– 39P) and I will be sure to respond. —Lynn Walsh, Treasurer
